Yes, the actual scarf can be washed. Remove the Scough activated carbon filter before washing the scarf.

Yes. However, if not washed properly it can decrease its lifespan. If you are going to wash the filter, it must be hand washed with filtered water, and unscented washing soda and air dried. The chemicals and minerals in regular tap water and conventional detergents will significantly decrease the lifespan of the filter. All Filters are coated with HeiQ to protect the filter from odor-causing microbes. This coating can last upto 30 washcycles. 

Each Scough comes with one filter. Additional filters can be purchased separately. 

Replacement filters are $22 each. Or you can sign up for our filter subscribe service and receive a fresh new Scough filter every 90 days.

Scough's unique activated carbon filter can be effective upto 90 days. We recommend replacing it after this period of time if you are using it consistently.

We recommend that you store it in a clean plastic resealable bag or use the mylar bag it came in or airtight mason jar when not in use. The filter is designed to block and/or capture specific particle debris so when not using - keep it safe. 

Some "dust" in or on the bag is normal and just part of the manufacturing process from the activated carbon. It won't taste great in cereal but otherwise harmless.

The barrier is intended for use inside the pocket of the scarf or bandana. It is not designed to fit as a stand alone mask. But you can use it with other masks and coverings that can fit our 3 x 6 filter size

The carbon cloth we use for our barriers is 100% activated carbon cloth (ACC). Note from the ACC manufacturer:
"We start out with different types of viscous rayon and actually carbonize it."
